CAD support in development

Native DWG to PDF is being added to Convertr

DWG is a CAD format, so until our CAD pipeline is live the fastest way to produce a PDF is to plot the drawing from AutoCAD, BricsCAD, or the free DWG TrueView viewer. Follow the guide below, or request this conversion so we prioritize it.

Input format

DWG drawing

DWG is the native CAD drawing format created by AutoCAD. It stores 2D and 3D vector geometry, layers, annotations, and metadata used by architects, engineers, and designers.

Output format

PDF document

PDF is a universal document format that keeps pages, vectors, and fonts intact. A PDF of a DWG drawing can be opened on any device and shared with clients who do not own CAD software.

How to convert DWG to PDF

DWG is a CAD format, so the cleanest way to produce a PDF is to plot the drawing from the application that opens it. The steps below work in every modern CAD tool and take only a minute.

Convertr is building native online DWG to PDF support. Until that lands you can request this conversion below, and we will prioritize CAD pipeline work based on real demand.

  1. 1 Open the DWG drawing in AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT, BricsCAD, or the free DWG TrueView viewer.
  2. 2 Choose File → Plot (or press Ctrl+P) and set the printer to "DWG To PDF.pc3" or "Microsoft Print to PDF".
  3. 3 Pick the paper size, plot area, and scale, then preview the layout to confirm the drawing fits the page.
  4. 4 Click OK or Save, choose a destination, and your DWG is exported to PDF ready for sharing.

If you do not have access to CAD software, request DWG to PDF below and we will track demand so we can prioritize adding native in-browser support.

DWG to PDF FAQ

Can I convert DWG to PDF online on Convertr right now?

Native in-browser DWG to PDF is on our roadmap but not live yet. We publish this page so you can track progress, request the conversion, and see the fastest alternative workflows.

What is the easiest way to export a DWG to PDF today?

Open the drawing in AutoCAD, BricsCAD, or the free Autodesk DWG TrueView viewer and use Plot with the "DWG To PDF" printer. The result is a vector PDF that keeps layers, line weights, and text selectable.

Do I need AutoCAD installed to plot DWG to PDF?

No. Autodesk offers DWG TrueView as a free download, and BricsCAD Shape is free for personal use. Both can open DWG files and plot them to PDF without a paid AutoCAD license.

Are the PDFs produced by Plot-to-PDF vector or raster?

The built-in Plot to PDF driver produces a vector PDF that stays crisp at any zoom level and keeps the drawing geometry, layers, line weights, and annotations intact.

Will Convertr notify me when online DWG to PDF goes live?

Requests logged through this page help us prioritize the CAD pipeline. Once native support ships, this page will update with a direct in-browser converter.
