The output keeps the same canvas size, but JPG changes how the pixels are stored. These are the practical tradeoffs to check before converting a batch.

Smaller files through lossy compression

BMP commonly stores pixel data with little or no compression, while JPG uses lossy compression to discard some image detail. Photographic and high-resolution BMP files are often much smaller as JPG, but the exact result depends on the source. A small indexed-color BMP can even be smaller than its JPG copy.

Full dimensions, different image data

The converter keeps the source width and height. JPG still re-encodes the pixels, so fine texture, text, and hard edges can show compression artifacts even when the pixel dimensions stay unchanged.

Transparency becomes opaque

JPG has no alpha channel. Transparent pixels in a 32-bit BMP are flattened into opaque pixels and may appear black depending on the bitmap data. Use BMP to PNG instead when transparency must remain.

Batch files start together

Select multiple BMP files, apply JPG as the target, and start them in the same browser workflow. Each file starts immediately and finishes with its own JPG download.

How to convert BMP to JPG online

  1. 1

Add one or more BMP files. You can choose several files at once or drag them into the converter, with a 1 GB limit for each file.

  2. 2

Choose JPG as the output format and start the conversion. Every selected BMP begins processing immediately.

  3. 3

Download each completed JPG file to your device.

Câu hỏi thường gặp

Does converting BMP to JPG reduce file size?

Usually, especially for 24-bit photos and high-resolution bitmaps, because JPG uses lossy compression. The saving is not guaranteed: image detail, dimensions, color mode, and the BMP encoding all affect the result, and some small indexed BMP files can grow after JPG conversion.

Will the JPG keep the original BMP dimensions?

Yes. Verified standard, grayscale, indexed-color, alpha, and 4096 × 3072 BMP fixtures kept their original width and height in the JPG output. The pixels are recompressed, but the page does not deliberately resize the image.

What happens to BMP transparency when I convert to JPG?

JPG cannot store transparency. Alpha pixels become opaque and transparent areas may appear black depending on the source bitmap. Convert BMP to PNG when you need to preserve transparency.

Can I batch convert multiple BMP files to JPG?

Yes. Add multiple BMP files, choose JPG for the batch, and start the conversion once. Each selected file begins immediately and receives a separate downloadable JPG when it finishes. The upload limit is 1 GB per file.

Can I control JPG quality on this converter?

This BMP to JPG workflow currently uses the encoder default and does not show a JPG quality slider. For manual control, use the Image Compressor after conversion: lower JPEG quality normally creates a smaller file with more visible artifacts, while higher quality keeps more detail in a larger file.

When is PNG a better target than JPG?

Choose PNG for transparency, logos, screenshots, text, line art, or images you expect to edit repeatedly. Choose JPG when broad compatibility and a smaller photographic image are more important than lossless pixels or transparency.

What happens when BMP becomes JPG

Định dạng nguồn

BMP is a simple bitmap format that is often uncompressed and therefore large.

định dạng mục tiêu

JPG uses lossy compression and does not support transparency.

Những thay đổi

The BMP pixels are decoded and written using JPG compression and color capabilities.

Nội dung được giữ nguyên
Pixel dimensions and visible composition are preserved unless resize or crop settings are selected.
What may be lost
Layers, editable vectors, camera-raw controls, animation, high bit depth, and metadata are preserved only when JPG supports them.
Codec and quality implications
JPG uses lossy compression. A higher quality or bitrate can reduce new artifacts, but it cannot restore detail already missing from the BMP source.
Realistic limitations
Multi-page, layered, animated, camera-raw, or very large images may be flattened, reduced to one frame, or rejected if the decoder cannot safely read them.

Langkah chuyển đổi

  1. Upload a BMP file no larger than 1 GB.
  2. Confirm that JPG is selected as the target.
  3. Start the conversion. A healthy compatible worker begins processing immediately.
  4. Download the JPG file and check the result before deleting your source.

Giải quyết vấn đề

The BMP file is rejected or will not open.
Confirm that the file is not empty, password-protected, or corrupt and that its real format matches the extension.
The JPG file is larger than expected.
Choose a more efficient codec or lower quality setting when available. Lossless and uncompressed targets are often larger by design.
Transparency, color, or animation changed.
Choose a target that supports the needed feature and keep the original file; JPG cannot store transparency or animation.
