- AAC uses lossy compression. A higher quality or bitrate can reduce new artifacts, but it cannot restore detail already missing from the WMV source.

- A WMV file with no decodable audio stream cannot produce AAC audio. Corrupt, encrypted, or unsupported codecs can also fail.
