Frequently asked questions
Is this PDF page numbering tool free?
Yes. You can add page numbers to PDF files for free, with no account, no watermark, and no software installation.
Does adding page numbers reduce PDF quality?
No. Convertr creates a lightweight text overlay and stamps it onto the PDF with qpdf. Pages are not rasterized, downsampled, or recompressed to reduce load.
Can I skip the cover page?
Yes. Set the first numbered page to 2 or later when the cover, title page, or table of contents should stay unnumbered.
What is the maximum PDF file size?
You can upload PDF files up to 1 GB, the same limit as every other Convertr tool.
Are uploaded PDFs private?
Files are processed on Convertr servers and automatically deleted after page numbering. Analytics uses size, page-count, and option buckets only, not filenames or document content.
Does Convertr support password-protected PDFs?
Remove the password from your PDF before uploading. Convertr does not unlock encrypted PDFs and the page-numbering tool will skip files it cannot read.
