FITS File Inspector
Inspect FITS HDUs, headers, dimensions, bit depth, checksums, WCS, compression and table schemas without modifying the source.
HDU summary
Headers and data units
Header values can contain observer, object and location details. They are shown only in this result and never sent to analytics.
FITS Viewer
Inspect a supported FITS image or table and render bounded scientific data previews.
- Input
- One supported FITS file.
- Output
- Header metadata plus an image preview or table extract when present.
- Real limitations
- Very large arrays are previewed within stated bounds, unsupported HDUs are not converted, and the tool is not an astronomy analysis package.
- Privacy and data handling
- one supported FITS file is uploaded to a compatible Convertr worker only after you start the operation. Processing is automated, and temporary source and result files are deleted automatically after processing rather than retained as permanent storage.
How to use this tool
- Choose one supported FITS file and wait for the page to validate it.
- Set the available output or inspection options, then start processing.
- Review the reported result and download header metadata plus an image preview or table extract when present before the temporary link expires.
Common failure modes
Invalid FITS blocks, unsupported compression, missing image data, or incompatible table columns can prevent a preview.
Useful example
Upload a single-image FITS file to inspect its header and render a stretched PNG preview.
