Music notation and playback

MSCZ to MIDI Converter

Convert MuseScore files (.mscz, .mscx) to a Standard MIDI file with one track per instrument, without installing MuseScore.

Only your uploaded artifact is processed. Files may be up to 1 GB and remain available for up to six hours.

Balanced uses 1/16-note quantization and triplets. Precise uses 1/32-note quantization and additional tuplets. Simplified uses 1/8-note quantization and fewer voices.

Fidelity note: MIDI does not contain exact notation spelling, lyrics, articulations, repeats, voices, or page design. MIDI-to-score results are inferred and best effort. MusicXML rendering may change for unsupported extensions or substituted fonts.

Please convert only scores you have the right to use. Convertr does not publish the uploaded score or fetch linked media, fonts, or other resources.

How to convert MSCZ to MIDI

  1. Choose your MuseScore file (.mscz or .mscx) and select its input format.

  2. Start the conversion and wait until the MIDI file is ready.

  3. Download the .mid file and open it in a MIDI player, a DAW or a notation app.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need MuseScore installed?

No. The conversion runs on the Convertr server with MuseScore Studio 4.7. You only need a web browser.

Which MuseScore files can I upload?

Upload compressed .mscz files or uncompressed .mscx files. Files saved with MuseScore 2, 3 and 4 open. A file from a MuseScore version newer than 4.7 can fail to open.

What does the MIDI file contain?

The MIDI file has one track per instrument, with the instrument name and sound number. It contains the notes and the tempo of the score. Page layout and notation details are not part of MIDI.

Will the MIDI file sound like MuseScore playback?

No. MIDI stores notes, not audio. Your player or DAW selects the sounds, so the result can sound different from MuseScore playback.

What happens to my file after the conversion?

Convertr deletes your upload and the result automatically, at the latest after six hours. Your score is not published.
