MXF (Material Exchange Format) is a professional video container used by broadcast cameras and editing systems. It can hold high-quality codecs such as XDCAM, AVC-Intra, and DNxHD together with timecode and metadata. MXF files are large and need professional software, so they are often converted to MP4.
WebM is an open video format developed for the web. It usually holds VP8, VP9, or AV1 video with Opus or Vorbis audio and plays in all modern browsers. Some editing apps and Apple devices have limited WebM support, so it is often converted to MP4.
