Source format
PDF preserves a fixed page layout but is not inherently a fully editable source format.
PDF (Portable Document Format) is a fixed-layout document format used for sharing, printing, archiving, and submitting files while preserving fonts, images, spacing, and page layout across devices.
WEBP
WebP is an image format developed by Google for the web. It supports lossy and lossless compression, transparency, and animation, and its files are usually smaller than JPG or PNG. All modern browsers support WebP, but some older apps and editors cannot open it.
What happens when PDF becomes WEBP
Target format
WEBP supports lossy and lossless compression, transparency, and animation.
What changes
The PDF document is interpreted and rebuilt using the layout and editing model supported by WEBP.
- What is preserved
- Readable text, images, and page order are preserved where the WEBP format can represent the same document features.
- What may be lost
- Complex fonts, comments, tracked changes, forms, macros, and exact pagination may change when WEBP cannot represent them.
- Codec and quality implications
- Inspect the output before replacing the source, especially when the formats use different layout, codec, or editing models.
- Realistic limitations
- Password protection, corruption, missing fonts, macros, embedded objects, and unusually complex layouts can change or prevent conversion.
Conversion steps
- Upload a PDF file no larger than 1 GB.
- Confirm that WEBP is selected as the target.
- Start the conversion. A healthy compatible worker begins processing immediately.
- Download the WEBP file and check the result before deleting your source.
Troubleshooting
- The PDF file is rejected or will not open.
- Confirm that the file is not empty, password-protected, or corrupt and that its real format matches the extension.
- The WEBP file is larger than expected.
- Choose a more efficient codec or lower quality setting when available. Lossless and uncompressed targets are often larger by design.
Privacy and file retention
Uploads and converted files are processed automatically and irreversibly deleted within 24 hours. You can delete them sooner with the delete control. Convertr does not read, mine, sell, or manually review file contents.
