PDF (Portable Document Format) is a fixed-layout document format used for sharing, printing, archiving, and submitting files while preserving fonts, images, spacing, and page layout across devices.

SVG
SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) is an XML-based vector image format for the web. It describes shapes, paths, and text, so images stay sharp at any size and files are often small. SVG suits logos, icons, and illustrations, while some apps need a PNG or JPG version instead.
What happens when PDF becomes SVG
Source format
PDF preserves a fixed page layout but is not inherently a fully editable source format.
Target format
SVG stores vector shapes and text rather than a fixed pixel grid.
Before you convert a PDF to SVG
Every PDF page becomes its own SVG file. Lines, shapes and fills stay vectors; nothing is traced from pixels. A PDF with several pages gives a ZIP with one SVG per page (page-01.svg, page-02.svg and so on). You can also choose one page.
Password-protected or restricted PDFs are not opened. Remove the password in your PDF app first, then upload the file again.
- What stays vector
- Paths, shapes, line widths, colours and transparency stay vectors. Photos in the PDF stay embedded images in the SVG, at their original resolution.
- Text becomes outlines
- Text is drawn as glyph outlines (the shapes of the letters). It looks exactly like the PDF on every computer, but you cannot select or edit it as text in the SVG. Links, form fields, comments and bookmarks are not kept.
- File size
- An SVG is often larger than the PDF, especially when the PDF holds photos, because SVG stores images as text (Base64). Pure vector drawings usually stay small.
- Scanned pages
- A scanned PDF holds pictures of pages, not vector art. Its SVG only holds that picture and does not get sharper. Convertr marks such pages in the result. To trace a simple bitmap into shapes, use PNG to SVG.
Conversion steps
- Upload a PDF file no larger than 1 GB.
- Confirm that SVG is selected as the target.
- Download the SVG file and check the result before deleting your source.
Troubleshooting
- The PDF is refused as password-protected.
- Open it in your PDF app, remove the password and the restrictions, save it and upload it again.
- The SVG looks blurry.
- The page is a scan or a photo. A vector file cannot add detail that the picture does not have.
- I cannot edit the text.
- PDF text becomes outlines in SVG. Retype the text in your vector editor if you need to change it.
Privacy and file retention
Uploads and converted files are processed automatically and irreversibly deleted within 24 hours. You can delete them sooner with the delete control. Convertr does not read, mine, sell, or manually review file contents.

Questions about PDF to SVG
- Can I edit the text after converting PDF to SVG?
- Not as text. The letters become vector outlines, so they look right everywhere but cannot be retyped. You can still change their colour and shape in a vector editor.
- What happens with a PDF that has many pages?
- Every page becomes its own SVG file, and you get all of them in one ZIP. To get only one page, choose One page and enter the page number.
- Why is my SVG so large?
- Photos in the PDF are stored in the SVG as text, which makes them about a third larger. Vector drawings are usually small.
- Does a scanned PDF become a vector drawing?
- No. A scan is a picture. The SVG holds that picture unchanged, and the result tells you that the page is a scan. Use PNG to SVG to trace simple black-and-white drawings.
- What happens to my files?
- Your files are converted automatically and deleted within 24 hours. You can delete them sooner with the delete button. Nobody looks at your files.
