SVG
SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) is an XML-based vector image format for the web. It describes shapes, paths, and text, so images stay sharp at any size and files are often small. SVG suits logos, icons, and illustrations, while some apps need a PNG or JPG version instead.
PDF
PDF (Portable Document Format) is a fixed-layout document format used for sharing, printing, archiving, and submitting files while preserving fonts, images, spacing, and page layout across devices.
Before you convert an SVG to PDF
Convertr draws the SVG on one PDF page with the size of the SVG: its width and height, or its viewBox. Shapes, gradients, clip paths, masks and text stay vectors, so the PDF is sharp at any zoom and in print.
The SVG is cleaned first. Scripts, animations, links to other files or websites and external images or fonts are removed. Convertr never downloads anything that the SVG points to.
- What stays vector
- Paths, shapes, gradients, patterns, clip paths, masks, transparency and embedded images go into the PDF as they are. Text stays text, so you can search and copy it in the PDF.
- Fonts and effects
- Animations, scripts and interactive parts are not kept, because a PDF page is static. Fonts that our server does not have are replaced by similar fonts (DejaVu, Noto or URW). The result tells you when this happens.
- Page size
- The page has the exact size of the SVG, at 96 CSS pixels per inch as in web browsers. SVG sizes in millimetres or points stay the same. A drawing larger than 200 inches is scaled down to fit, because most PDF viewers cannot open larger pages. It stays a vector drawing.
- Limits
- SVG files up to 256 MB are accepted. Files that declare XML entities in a DOCTYPE are refused for safety. Export such a file again, for example with Inkscape or with Export As in Illustrator.
Privacy and file retention
Uploads and converted files are processed automatically and irreversibly deleted within 24 hours. You can delete them sooner with the delete control. Convertr does not read, mine, sell, or manually review file contents.
Read the privacy policyQuestions about SVG to PDF
- Is the text in my SVG still text in the PDF?
- Yes. Text is written as real text with an embedded font, so you can search and copy it. If the SVG names a font that our server does not have, a similar font is used and the result tells you so.
- Why are animations or scripts missing?
- A PDF page is static. Convertr removes animations, scripts and interactive parts for safety and keeps the static drawing.
- Are linked images and fonts loaded?
- No. Convertr never downloads files or websites that an SVG points to. Images that are embedded in the SVG are kept; linked images are left out.
- Can I print the PDF?
- Yes. The PDF keeps vector shapes and text, so it prints sharp at any size. Colours stay RGB as in the SVG. Your print shop can convert them to CMYK if needed.
- What happens to my files?
- Your files are converted automatically and deleted within 24 hours. You can delete them sooner with the delete button. Nobody looks at your files.
