Why convert Numbers to Excel?

Numbers is the spreadsheet app from Apple. Excel on Windows, Google Sheets and Android cannot open .numbers files. An XLSX file opens in all of them.

Every sheet of the Numbers file becomes a worksheet in Excel. Choose CSV for plain table data, or PDF for a copy that you can print.

What stays and what changes

What stays

All sheets with their names, cell values, text, dates and number formats go into the workbook. Formulas stay formulas, so Excel calculates them again.

What changes

Charts are not converted, so a sheet with only a chart stays empty. Apple fonts are replaced by similar fonts. Check important numbers after the conversion.

Frequently asked questions

Are my formulas kept?

Yes. Formulas such as SUM, SUMIF or OFFSET stay formulas in the Excel file, and Excel calculates them again. Check complex formulas after the conversion.

What happens to charts?

Charts are not converted. The data of a chart stays in its table, so you can make the chart again in Excel. The result tells you when a file has charts.

Can I get CSV or PDF instead?

Yes. Choose CSV or PDF as the output format. A CSV file holds only the first sheet. To keep every sheet, choose Excel.

Can I convert the file on an iPhone or an Android phone?

Yes. On an iPhone or iPad, select Choose Files and pick the file in the Files app. On Android, save the file first, then choose it.

My file has a password. What can I do?

Convertr cannot open files with a password and never asks for one. Open the file in Numbers, remove the password and upload the file again. You can also export the file directly in Numbers.

My browser does not upload the file. Why?

Older files from Numbers can be folders (packages), and browsers cannot upload folders. In Numbers on a Mac, choose File > Advanced > Save as Single File. You can also compress the file in Finder and upload the ZIP file.

Are my files private?

Uploads and converted files are processed automatically and irreversibly deleted within 24 hours. You can delete them sooner with the delete control. Convertr does not read, mine, sell, or manually review file contents.
